07 Jan First Aid for the summer holidays
We’re well into the summer season now, and with that summer sunshine beckoning us outside, it’s important to be aware of the hazards that come with the warmer weather, as well as being prepared for the potential first aid emergencies that we may be faced with. This can be especially important when children are involved, as their curiosity can get the better of them, plus, they’re not quite as careful or aware of potential dangers as adults.
With this in mind, it is crucial to have a well equipped and in-date first aid kit at hand to ensure that you are ready to attend to the various accidents or emergencies that may arise. At the same time, it is also important to attend a Provide First Aid training course to make sure that you have the adequate knowledge and ability to apply first aid appropriately, as well as being able to use the contents of your first aid kit as effectively as possible.
Australia is known for being home to many hazardous creatures; from snakes, spiders and ticks on the land, to sharks, blue bottles and sea urchins in the ocean. There are also many hazardous environments around Australia, many located in the areas that we tend to enjoy spending our holidays – such as the beach and the bush for hiking or exploring. Then, of course, there are the hazards that come with our day-to-day activities, such as barbecuing, cycling, playing with pets and playing in playgrounds or parks.
With all of the potential for injury to occur to you or your family, it is easy to see why it is so important to make sure that you’re prepared for any first aid emergency. By getting yourself prepared and equipped for any hazards this summer holidays, not only will you have the knowledge and ability, but also the confidence to administer appropriate treatment.
If your child has sustained an injury over the holiday period, depending on the nature of the injury, it is beneficial to seek an assessment from a paediatric physiotherapist to ensure that their recovery goes smoothly. Not only in terms of the injury itself, but also to ensure that they don’t develop any compensatory habits that could lead to further problems with how their body functions in the future.
